4/19/20 Aura-Leah Tangle

Aura-Leah

Tangle Author: Carla Du Preez

Materials needed for this lesson: Pencil and piece of paper (I divided a sheet of 8.5 x 11 inch piece of plain white paper into fourths by folding it in half lengthwise and then folding it in half again width-wise. I drew my tangle on one-fourth of the paper.)

Video Instructions for drawing Aura-Leah

You can draw Aura-Leah in different ways. (The starting line is about 1.5 inches long.)

Ellen drew many Aura-Leahs then used a pencil to add
shading to the middle of each one.
Ellen drew many Aura-Leahs of different sizes then darkened, or added weight, to some of the lines with her black Sakura Micron 05 pen.

Ellen started with the five small Aura-Leahs in the center, then added larger Aura-Leahs around them. She added shading in each Aura-Leah and finished the design by adding shading around the whole with her pencil.
Ellen's completed paper.
Ellen continued "playing" with the Aura-Leah tangle. In the Aura-Leah on the right she tried a variety of ways to "color them in." On the left she started filling in the background with Printemps and shading.

Terri created this zentangle tile by drawing the tangles, Aura-Leah, Printemps, and Fescue. She added shading and her signature to finish the tile.
Terri created this zentangle tile by drawing the tangle Rain and then adding a chain of Aura-Leahs. She completed the tile by adding shading and her initials.

Ellen used a black Sakura Micron PN pen to draw the bird, flowers and feathers. She drew the tangle, Ibex, inside the bird's body and Aura-Leah for the spray of feathers. Ellen added color by using gel pens.

3/30/20 Diva Dance Tangle - Waltz, Foxtrot and Rock ' Roll

Tangle Authors: Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas

This tangle is different from other tangles in that there are three variations of it which are named and based on the rhythms of the Waltz, Foxtrot and Rock ‘n Roll.

These variations are different enough that I am making video instructions for each one. You do NOT have to watch the videos in any particular order.

We’ll start with Waltz. In dance, the waltz has a three step rhythm,  1 – 2 – 3, 1 – 2 – 3.  In the tangle this done by drawing two lines a few millimeters apart and then a bump. We repeat this rhythm until we have completed the section we started drawing in.

A completed section of Waltz. (Draw a line, then another line, then a 'bump.' Fill in the bump and repeat. Bumps can be anyplace on the line. Bumps can be any shape and size.)
Ellen drew Waltz behind the geckos. The materials she used for this drawing were a black fine-line Sharpie marker and colored gel pens.
Ellen used black Sakura Micron pens (01 and 03) to draw Waltz. She added the water droplets using a 4B pencil, a white Sakura gel pen and a blue glitter gel pen. Ellen learned to draw water droplets from the website http://dotsndoodles.com/how-to-draw-a-water-drop-step-by-step-fine-art-tips/
Ellen drew Waltz in the tree trunk. She used a Sakura Micron 01 pen.
Another variation of Diva Dance is called  ‘Foxtrot. The foxtrot has a four step rhythm. In foxtrot, we start by dividing the section we will be drawing in into four parts because the foxtrot rhythm is 1 – 2 – 3 - 4, 1 – 2 – 3 - 4. In each part, we make the tangle by drawing three lines a few millimeters apart and then a bump. We repeat this rhythm until we have completed each of the four parts of the section

Ellen drew Foxtrot in the lower right-hand corner of the section.
Ellen divided the section into many smaller parts then drew Foxtrot in each part.
Now we are going to draw the Diva Dance variation called Rock ‘n Roll.’ In Rock ‘n Roll this done by drawing a comma, or a curly-cue, and a bump. We spin the paper as we draw and Rock 'n Roll gets larger and larger, until we feel that it is finished.

A completed Rock 'n Roll. (Start with a comma, or curly-cue in the middle add bumps to the line as you turn your paper to continue the drawing. The lines are a few millimeters apart.)
Ellen drew several Rock 'n Rolls in a circle and then added some leaves between them. She used a black Sakura micron 01 pen.

Ellen used gel pens to complete this drawing of
Rock 'n Roll.
